RED vs ATLAS
To make things more interesting for me, I thought that instead of doing two reviews, which would mean putting one album in front of the other to focus on it, that I'd do a joint album comparison and listen to them concurrently. Each day I've alternated which album occupies my time, trying to get a good idea of both. As we speak, I'm listening to a playlist that alternates song-by-song between the two. Every track is a vast change in attitude, subject, and instrumentation from the one before. It's something I've never really tried until now, but it's a welcome new experience.
Can you tell who wrote which?*
"Do you remember all those nights when we stood side by side and we said, 'we'll save the goodbyes'? The night is young. We still have time."
"Time is taking its sweet time erasing you, and you've got your demons."
So who wins this battle? I suppose I misled you with the title. I'm not here to decide which album is better for you. I like both of them, and though neither is an absolute favorite of mine, they're both great albums. I don't find myself wanting to skip a song on either of them. Taylor Swift has done a great job of writing an extremely catchy record that her fans will undoubtedly listen to on repeat for hours, while Parkway Drive has unleashed a brutal series of tracks that will not only rock your home's foundation, but which sends out a message of personal awareness and responsibility. Take your pick between the two, or take them both -- it's your choice. You can't go wrong with either.
